Description
Cylindrical-shaped kiln.
Kilns
Throughout the Mediterranean, the types of kilns were reproduced and further developed. The size, actual shape and materials varied widely. The change from using bonfire to using a furnace or kiln aimed at better controlling the fire. The invention of the simple updraft kiln can only be deduced from a few ancient illustrations, mostly Early Egyptian. It is probable that the idea evolved independently in different parts of the world.
