Thoth (Djhuty) was the inventor of writing and  the Patron of the scribes. He was also the god of moon, wisdom, science, and medicine. He was worshiped from the early dynastic times through the Roman Period. Thoth’s main cult centre was Hermopolis (near the present town el-Ashmunein).
