A white or translucent stone which is a form of limestone (calcium carbonate) used in Egyptian statuary and architecture. From the early dynastic period, alabaster was used for the production of funerary vessels as well as statuary and altars. The main pharaonic source of Alabaster was Hatnub quarries in the Eastern desert (about 65Km from Menya south east of el-Amarna).
