Apostle St. Mark was born to Jewish parents who were very religious and devoted to the traditions of their forebears.  They were impoverished following a raid by Bedouins and migrated to Palestine to live with their relatives in Jerusalem.  This migration happened either before St Mark's birth or shortly thereafter.
