The Antiquities Museum and the Zahi Hawass Center of Egyptology; affiliated to the Bibliotheca Alexandria Cultural Outreach Sector, in collaboration with the Central Department of Restoration and Maintenance, Projects Sector, Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, organize an online seminar entitled «Egyptian Wooden Artifacts: Past, Present and Future». The speakers are a selection of distinguished experts in the fields of restoration and maintenance of antique woods. The seminar will be broadcasted on Tuesday and Thursday, 22 and 24 March 2022; 10:00 am – 3:00 pm, on the Antiquities Museum’s Facebook page: Bibliotheca Alexandrina Antiquities Museum.
The seminar consists of a series of lectures that tackle topics including but not limited to: types of wood – local and imported, their source of origin and reasons for reusing them, the scientific methodology in applying various analyses on the antique wood, ancient Egyptian carpentry, the development of the techniques used in making wooden carriages in Egypt through historical times, and the use of modern methods of photography to identify the technology of the ancient Egyptian wood industry.
