The Archeology Museum affiliated with the Cultural Outreach Sector at the BA, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Cairo, organizes a festivity entitled “Temples Claimed from the Nile: Egyptian Heritage in the Croatian Archives”, on Monday, 3 October 2022, at 2:00 pm at the BA Conference Center, Delegates Hall. The celebration marks the thirtieth anniversary of Egyptian-Croatian bilateral relations and begins with a presentation of the book Temples Claimed from the Nile. The text was prepared by Daniel Rafaelić and Hrvoje Gržina. The book includes photographic documentation by Zora Film art director Antun Markić for the works of the film crew and photos of heritage sites, cities and places the photographer passed through during his time in Egypt in 1962. The content also included portraits of locals.
Then a presentation of three documentaries about Egypt in 1962, produced by the Croatian company Zora Film, during the massive campaign led by UNESCO to save the monuments of Nubia, which were threatened with sinking after the construction of the High Dam, a project in which companies from several countries participated. Yugoslav companies were invited to study engineering and technical problems in this concern. Hence, Zora Film documented the necessary preparations for transferring the threatened temples. About 70 photographs were selected from the Markić collection to be displayed to the public in an exhibition on the sidelines of the festivity from 3 to 12 October 2022 at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Conference Center, West Exhibition Hall.
