The Antiquities Museum and the Zahi Hawass Center of Egyptology, affiliated to the BA Cultural Outreach Sector, in cooperation with the Scientific Center for Training in the West Delta and North Coast of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, organize a lecture entitled “Animal Use in the Old Kingdom: The Value of Zoology and Comparative Methods”. The lecture will be held on Wednesday, 26 October 2022; 1:00 pm, in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Antiquities Museum, Afterlife Section, delivered by Dr. Richard Reading, Research Associate at the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology, and Senior Researcher at the Ancient Egyptian Studies Associates (AERA).

The lecture sheds light on how animal bones can provide us with important information on the economic systems in Pharaonic Egypt. The lecturer poses many questions about animal resources that were of interest to the central authority, sites specialized in animal production, and the impact of the individual's status on animal species. Dr. Reading provides examples of livestock production sites in the Nile Delta, such as Kom El-Hosn, and animal consumption sites in Giza, such as Heit El Ghorab during the Pharaonic era.
