Egypt and the world will celebrate on the 4th of November this year the centenary of the greatest archaeological discovery in the history of archeology, the discovery of the royal tomb of the young king Tutankhamun at the Valley of the Kings in Luxor by the English archaeologist Howard Carter. This discovery had a huge impact on the whole world and was covered by all international newspapers and magazines in an unprecedented manner for ten years.

On this occasion, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) Antiquities Museum, affiliated to the Cultural Outreach Sector, in cooperation with the Italian Cultural Center in Cairo, will be hosting an exhibition entitled «Tutankhamun’s Living Image» from 1 to 30 November 2022 at 1:00 pm, at the BA Main Building, Antiquities Museum’s Entrance (B1)

The exhibition monitors the circumstances surrounding the discovery and its media impact, highlighting the role of the Egyptian workers and archaeologists in this discovery. In addition to the role of the Egyptian newspapers in opposing of the English newspapers attempt to monopolize coverage of this major event. The exhibition also documents the great interest of Egyptians and foreigners in visiting the King’s tomb and its official opening in 1929, all by displaying samples of Egyptian and foreign newspapers and magazines during that period.

Several images will also be displayed for the first time of the King's treasures exhibitions that toured the world, starting from America and Canada in 1962, to France, Japan, Germany and England until the beginning of the 70s of the last century. The exhibition also includes a display of some of the souvenirs that accompanied the discovery and some coins and stamps bearing the name and face of King Tutankhamun.
