The Bibliotheca Alexandrina Antiquities Museum of the Cultural Outreach Sector organizes a number of presentations in the volunteer training program that include archaeological and historical topics and several cultural events. In this context, the Antiquities Museum pays special attention to one of the most important religious events in Egypt: The Journey of the Holy Family. The ceremony will take place on Wednesday, 21 June 2023; 1:00 pm, at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Main Entrance, Auditorium Hall.
The event includes a presentation entitled “The Trail of the Holy Family in Egypt”, followed by an interactive presentation based on the “live motion capture” technology of one of the figures accompanying the Holy Family. This figure narrates the details of the Holy Family’s trail in Egypt through 8 governorates since their arrival in the direction of Arish, passing through Tell Basta. (Currently Al-Sharqiyah Governorate), then the governorates of Kafr Al-Sheikh and Cairo until they reached the area of Jabal Qesqam, where the Muharraq Monastery is now located, which was called the Second Bethlehem.
The Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage at UNESCO has commended Egypt successfully registering the file of celebrations associated with the Holy Family on the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. An Egyptian national committee, including a number of ministries and government agencies, succeeded in presenting the details; a message of peace, love, and security from the land that embraced the Holy Family, revived its trail and maintained celebrating its journey to Egypt.
