The Antiquities Museum and the Zahi Hawass Egyptology Center, affiliated to the Cultural Outreach Sector at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, are organizing a lecture entitled “Libraries in Ancient Egypt”, Sunday, 17 September 2023, 1:00 pm, in the “Afterlife” hall of the Antiquities Museum. The lecture is moderated by Prof. Zein Abdel-Hady, professor of library science at the Faculty of Arts, University of Helwan, director of the New Administrative Capital Library, and editor-in-chief of the Alam Al-Kitab magazine.

At the beginning, the lecture poses a question about discovering libraries in the civilization of ancient Egypt. Although the hieroglyphs or sacred inscriptions of ancient Egypt date back to around 3400 BCE—recent researches and studies assume the dating of hieroglyphs dates back to an earlier time—the Egyptians knew libraries and books in their ancient forms.
