Draw and Research Competition 2023

01 November 2023 - 30 November 2023

The Antiquities Museum, affiliated with the Cultural Outreach Sector, Bibliotheca Alexandrina, is organizing a competition entitled “Draw and Research” for the participants in the museum education activity, from 13 to 19 years old. The Museum is presenting this annual competition for the ninth year in a row, as the Museum gives special importance to museum education activity in order to spread archaeological awareness among children and young people, develop their talents, and demonstrate their artistic creativity, out of our belief in the multiplicity of talents.
The “Draw and Research” competition revolves around the Greek philosopher, historian, military leader and writer, Xenophon. Xenophon was born in Athens to a noble family, studied under Socrates, and is considered one of the important sources of Greek philosophy like his colleague, Plato. He wrote many of Socrates' dialogues, and presented his defense before the jury in his famous trial. His students were most inclined towards scientific philosophy, and he was impressed by the power of Socrates' resourcefulness and his skill in dialogue. Despite his love for philosophy, this did not prevent him from becoming an adventurous soldier. The Antiquities Museum at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina includes an artifact representing the head of the historian and philosopher Xenophon, carved from marble, it is a Roman copy of the Greek original.
