The Antiquities Museum and the Zahi Hawass Center of Egyptology, affiliated to the Cultural Outreach Sector at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA), organize a lecture entitled “Geology of Ancient Egypt and Climate Change” on Sunday, 12 November 2023; 1:00 pm, in the Auditorium Hall. The lecture will be moderated by Dr. Hisham Moustafa Al-Asmar, Professor of Geology at the Faculty of Science, Damietta University.
The speaker will highlight the reaction of sedimentary rocks from recent geological eras to successive climatic changes, thus providing a historical archive of these climatic cycles. Various natural factors play roles in the formation of these rocks, similar to the Nile delta which resulted from the interaction of the tropical waters of the Nile, during periods of rain, with the waters of the Mediterranean.
The lecture will also highlight Egyptian genius throughout the ages, not only in construction, architecture and the use of local rocks, but also in adaptation to climate change.
