The Antiquities Museum and the Zahi Hawass Center of Egyptology, affiliated with the Cultural Outreach Sector of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA), organize a lecture entitled “Restoration of the Graeco-Roman Museum’s Collections: Vision, Dream, and Achievement,” on Tuesday, 21 November 2023; 1:00 pm, at the BA, Main Building, Fourth Floor Floating Room. The lecture will be delivered by Sami El-Shanchouri, a Master’s Researcher at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Alexandria University, and Supervisor of the restoration of the collections of the Graeco-Roman Museum and the BA Antiquities Museum.
The lecture will explain the decision to develop the Graeco-Roman Museum, and the transfer of more than 43,000 archaeological pieces from museum warehouses and archaeological areas, as well as the restoration of more than 10,000 archaeological pieces and preparing them for display. The lecture will also discuss supervising the transfer of 160,000 coins and the display of 1,600 pieces of archaeological coins (gold, silver, and bronze), in addition to tools from various Ptolemaic, Roman, and Byzantine eras, and much more.
