The Antiquities Museum, affiliated to the Cultural Outreach Sector, Bibliotheca Alexandrina, is organizing the Seventh Annual Cultural Forum, “Our Archaeological Heritage... A Vision for the Future,” under the title: “A View on the Cultural and Archaeological Heritage in Sohag Governorate”, on Tuesday and Wednesday, 5-6 March 2024; 10:00 am, Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Main Entrance, Auditorium Hall, and the Conference Center, Multi-Purpose Hall.
Sohag Governorate is distinguished by many touristic and cultural components. Touristic activities there include historical, heritage, religious, therapeutic, and safari tourism. The governorate has a large number of archaeological sites dating back to different historical eras, starting from the ancient Egyptian civilization, and through the Greek, Coptic, and Islamic civilizations. To witness the vital role played by the governorate’s centers and villages throughout the ages.
The governorate is famous for its heritage crafts and traditional industries, which numbered approximately 18 crafts, including: Kilim making, Talli weaving, embroidery, and crochet, which Egypt is interested in supporting and reviving.
The activities of the Cultural Forum include a symposium and a workshop; The symposium addresses two main topics:
First: The archaeological and historical aspect of Sohag.
Second: The heritage aspect that sheds light on some of the important crafts that Sohag is famous for.
A workshop will be held on handicrafts in Sohag Governorate, to revive the art of Talli embroidery, during which pictures of the tools for Talli and the method of weaving it will be displayed. In addition to pictures of world celebrities wearing clothes decorated with the art of Talli. Participation in the workshop is open for those interested in learning handicrafts, and is on a first-come, first-served basis until the number is complete (40 participants).
