The Antiquities, Manuscripts, and Sadat Museum, affiliated to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Cultural Outreach Sector organize a festivity on the occasion of the International Museum Day entitled “Bibliotheca Alexandrina Museums: A Bridge of Communication”. The event takes place on Thursday, 21 May 2026, at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Main Building, Auditorium, at 10:00 am.

The International Council of Museums has designated 18 May of every year to celebrate the International Museum Day, aiming to attract audiences of all groups and backgrounds to museums through various and diverse means. This year, the theme focuses on museums as bridges of communication between the world. The day highlights the role of museums as platforms for promoting dialogue, peace, and cultural exchange, while offering free activities and special events in many museums around the world.

The International Museum Day 2026 celebration at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina reaffirms that museums are no longer merely places for preserving historical artifacts, but have become vibrant spaces for human dialogue, cultural communication, and the building of awareness. The Bibliotheca Alexandrina Museums present a distinguished cultural model that reflects the power of culture to bring people together despite their differences.

The celebration includes a program designed for audiences of all ages. The program will start at 10:00 am in the Auditorium Hall with an opening speech by Dr. Hussein Bassir, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Antiquities Museum. This will be followed by a lecture entitled: “When artifacts tell their Stories: The Experience of Memory and Time in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Museums” presented by Dr. Dina Ezz Eldin; the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels at Alexandria University and Vice Dean for Communtiy Service and Environmental Development. The lecture will discuss the role of museums in uniting the world, taking the museums of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina as a model. The attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in a competition featuring questions about the BA’s museums. The winners will be awarded symbolic prizes.

At the same time, the Museum Education Department at the Antiquities Museum will conduct a workshop for kindergarten children entitled: “Little Troublemakers, but …”. The workshop will include an innovative presentation tailored to their age group using AI to teach them the guidelines of visiting museums in an indirect and engaging way. The activity will also include a hands-on application using a printed model inspired by the idea of a puzzle, where children complete missing parts from the full picture.

The lectures program will be followed by a guided tour for the participants in the 3 BA Museums.
