The Bibliotheca Alexandrina through the Antiquities Museum, affiliated to the Cultural Outreach Sector, is organizing a symposium entitled: Tourism and Antiquities: Rediscovering the Homeland and Building the Future. The seminar will be held Tuesday, 23 June 2026, at 1:00 pm in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Main Building, Auditorium, as part of the event Alexandria Dialogues 14, that is held annually at the BA.

The seminar will be moderated by Prof. Ahmed A. Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and will feature a distinguished group of professors and specialists in the fields of tourism, antiquities, and cultural heritage. Among them is Prof. Gamal Abdel Rahim, Professor of Islamic Archaeology and Art, Cairo University, who will deliver a lecture entitled: The History and Antiquities of Alexandria’s Squares in the Islamic Eras. Prof. Khaled Gharib, Professor of Greek and Roman Archaeology, Cairo University, will deliver a lecture entitled The Grand Egyptian Museum: A New Horizon for Tourism. Prof. Sobhi Ashour, Professor of Greco-Roman Archaeology at the Faculty of Arts, Cairo University, and a member of the Supreme Ministerial Committee for Museum Scenarios, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, will also present a lecture entitled Greek and Roman Antiquities and the Future of Tourism in Egypt. These lectures highlight the importance of cultural heritage in strengthening national identity and supporting sustainable development.

The public seminar underscores the importance of cultural tourism and its role in showcasing Egypt's cultural identity by preserving heritage and presenting it in modern ways that attract new generations and enhance cultural awareness. Egypt continues its efforts to develop archaeological sites, museums, and tourism infrastructure, bolstering its position on the global tourism map and contributing to the revitalization of the national economy and the creation of new opportunities for development and cultural exchange.

It is worth noting that the Alexandria Dialogues 14 series is a collection of discussion forums launched several years ago by Prof. Ahmed A. Zayed. It aims to foster open dialogue between intellectuals, decision-makers, and the public by discussing political, economic, social, and cultural issues, thereby supporting the Egyptian cultural movement and solidifying the role of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina as a leading intellectual and dialogue platform.
