The Ninth Annual Cultural Forum: Our Archaeological Heritage… A Vision for the Future Archaeological and Cultural Heritage Treasures of North Sinai

01 July 2026 - 02 July 2026

Alexandria, Egypt

Bibliotheca Alexandrina Conference Center, Delegates Hall

The Antiquities Museum, affiliated with the Cultural Outreach Sector at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, is organizing the Ninth Annual Cultural Forum, “Our Archaeological Heritage… A Vision for the Future,” under the title “Archaeological and Cultural Heritage Treasures of North Sinai.” The forum will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, 1–2 July 2026, at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Conference Center, Delegates Hall.

The seminar will address two principal themes. The first will explore the history and archaeology of North Sinai across different civilizations, from the ancient Egyptian civilization through the Islamic era. The second will shed light on the region’s religious and social heritage.

The seminar will highlight the importance of North Sinai as Egypt’s eastern gateway and as a strategic center that has played a pivotal role in defense and trade throughout history. It will examine several of the region’s most prominent archaeological sites, including the fortresses along the military route known as the Way of Horus, such as Tell Hebua—ancient Egyptian Tjaru—and Tell el-Borg, as well as Tell el-Darawish, Tell el-Mukhayzin, and Wadi Maghara. It will also address Pelusium, or Tell el-Farama, with its Greek and Roman remains, in addition to Byzantine-era sites, such as Al-Flusiat Hill and its early churches. Islamic monuments will also be discussed, including Arish Castle, Al-Tina Hill and Castle, and Saladin’s Castle on Pharaoh’s Island.

The seminar will further highlight the authentic heritage of Sinai, including traditional crafts such as embroidery, weaving, pottery, and leatherwork, as well as the customs and traditions associated with Bedouin society and camel racing.
