Sarcophagi in Ancient Egypt: Linguistic, Religious, and Symbolic Denotations

The BA Antiquities Museum is organizing a lecture titled “Sarcophagi in Ancient Egypt: Linguistic, Religious, and Symbolic Denotations” on 20 October 2016. The lecture will be held at 12:00 noon in the Third Floor Floating Room at the BA. Dr. Mohamed Abdelrahman Al-Shaffei, Head of Scientific Research at the Ministry of Antiquities Projects Sector, will discuss how sarcophagi developed throughout the Pharaonic era. Featuring inscriptions and religious paintings, the sarcophagi depict the afterlife according to the ancient Egyptian religion, how ancient Egyptians viewed the afterlife and its gods, and how they constantly ornamented their tombs and sarcophagi with different inscriptions and symbols.
