Sinai: The Origin of the Alphabet
22 September 2016
- 31 December 2016
The BA Antiquities Museum will host an exhibition titled “Sinai: The Origin of the Alphabet”, at the Museum’s entrance in the B1 level. The exhibition will be inaugurated on 22 September 2016 and will continue until 31 December 2016. It showcases a collection of panels illustrating Sinai’s role in the emergence of the alphabet. The collection also emphasizes Sinai’s position as a cultural meeting point between the ancient civilizations of the near East in Asia and Africa and as the gateway from which the Egyptian civilization sprung forth to intermingle with other ancient civilizations. This exhibition has a special significance, for it features the results of the archaeological excavations carried out in the Sinai Peninsula by the archaeological mission led by the University of Bonn and the Supreme Council of Antiquities in Serabit el-Khadim, Sinai.
