The BA Antiquities Museum is organizing a lecture entitled “Types of Hellenistic Cinerary Urns Discovered in the Cemeteries of the City of Alexandria”. The lecture is going to be held on 10 November 2016 in the BA Third Floor Floating Room at 12:00 noon. The lecture will be delivered by Dr. Mervat Yehia, General Director of the Alexandria National Museum, and will discuss ceramic cinerary urns—made of the most commonly used material in ancient times—and their different shapes, such as the amphora and hydra. The lecture will also present the various ornamentations decorating the urns, which reflect the manufacturers’ skills, and it will address how those urns were considered a reflection of the age during which they were created.
