Specialized Academic Course in Archaeological Studies at the BA

The BA Antiquities Museum, in cooperation with the BA CULTNAT, is organizing a specialized academic course in archaeological studies titled “Processual Archaeology and Museology”. The course will be taught by Dr. Giacomo Cavillier, Egyptology and Coptic Civilization Professor at the Università Popolare del Mediterraneo, Torino (Turin), Italy, and Egyptology Professor at the International Telematic University (UNINETTUNO), Rome, Italy, and Dr. Maha Mansour, archaeological and cultural heritage researcher at the University of Cambridge, Britain, and Egyptology Lecturer at the University of Melbourne, Australia.
During the first week of the two-week course, sessions will mainly tackle the establishment and development of the theory and methods of processual archaeology processual archaeology (New Archaeology) in the last decades, while focusing on training participants in using said novel methods in understanding and interpreting cultural heritage. The second week will address the concept and role of museums within the framework of new museology, while focusing on how to analyze and study museum pieces. The course also includes a visit to the BA Antiquities Museum, where participants will observe how a number of antiquities are displayed in Alexandria, and where they will conduct practical training to apply what they have learned from the course.
The course is set to be held from Sunday, 18 March to Thursday, 29 March 2018 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm in the third floor (F3) and fourth floor (F4) Floating Rooms, BA Main Building.
