The Afterlife Section, Bibliotheca Alexandrina Antiquities Museum

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina Antiquities Museum organizes a lecture entitled “Temple-Town Hierakonpolis, 2008‒2011 Excavations” on Monday, 10 December 2018, at 1:00 pm, in the Afterlife Section, Bibliotheca Alexandrina Antiquities Museum. The lecture will be delivered by Dr. Elizabeth J. Walters, Associate Professor, Department of Art History, Pennsylvania State University.

The researcher will discuss fragments of masterful figures in ebony and other unusual materials, which—using creativity—can help reimagine the whole figures. The fragments from recent excavations at Temple-Town Hierakonpolis were not found as castaways or debris, but purpose fully placed. Therefore, these fragments matter to us and were important to the ancient Egyptians as well. More clues from the ongoing excavations further to the north in the ancient town—in the early palace dating back to 3200 BCE—provide evidence of offerings, both as fully preserved items and special fragments.
