The Bibliotheca Alexandrina Antiquities Museum is organizing a lecture entitled “Hassawanarti: a New Site of Rock Inscriptions in Aswan”. The lecture is going to be held on Monday, 25 March 2019, at 1:00 pm, in the BA Main Building, Third Floor Floating Room (F3), and will be delivered by Prof. Stephan Seidlmayer, Director of the German Archaeological Institute, Cairo.

The lecture will discuss Hassawanarti, a small rocky island close to Elephantine, Aswan, with at least 80 potential pharaonic inscriptions to be discovered; by far most of them are still unpublished. Many of the texts were carved by the highest officials. They provide important information on the administration of the Aswan area in ancient times, and also on the cults and religious festivals of the temples of Elephantine.
