The BA Antiquities Museum organizes a lecture titled "Isis and the Truth about the Statue of Liberty" on Tuesday, 28 May 2019, at 12:00 noon in the BACC Meeting Room (C). The lecture will be delivered by Dr. Yousria Abdel-Aziz Hosny, Lecturer of History, Civilization and Tourist Guiding at the Higher Institute of Hotels and Tourism (E.G.O.T.H), Alexandria.
The lecture discusses ancient tales and their relation to modern day art, such as the legend of the Egyptian goddess Isis and the Statue of Liberty that is currently located in New York, USA. The researcher concludes that the statue was inspired by the Egyptian goddess Isis and not the Roman goddess Libertas as some say.
In fact, the Statue of Liberty was originally supposed to be situated at the entrance of the Suez Canal, as its sculptor gifted it to Khedive Ismail at the time as a symbol of the Canal. However, for multiple reasons the statue was not laid out at its intended location. Instead, a few modifications were applied to it and afterwards, it was gifted to the United States to be placed in its current resting place of New York City.
