The BA Antiquities Museum, affiliated to the Cultural Outreach Sector, organizes a lecture entitled "Documentation and Scientific Registration of Islamic Archaeological Curtains Embroidered with Metallic Threads" on Monday, 15 July 2019, at 1:00 pm at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Main Building, 3rd Floor Floating Room (F3). The lecture will be delivered by Dr. Dalia Abdel-Aal, Head of the Primary Conservation Department of Organic Antiquities, Grand Egyptian Museum.
The lecture revolves around embroidered curtains as documentary materials of the luxuries people had throughout different historical periods. These luxuries include the ornaments they used to decorate their windows and doors with, which were embroidered with the most expensive metallic gold, silver and copper threads. The importance of the documentation and the scientific registration of archaeological materials in general, and the embroidered curtains in particular, is not limited to the collection of data and information during the documentation process alone, but it is also one of the most important steps during in the maintenance, restoration and treatment of archaeological curtains. This is done by giving a clear scientific explanation of the general state of the materials, how they were created in ancient times, the reasons for their deterioration, in addition to confirming their authenticity and constructively contributing to the development of an optimal plan for treatment and restoration, as well as to give a full account of the conditions necessary for their storage and preservation for future generations.
