The BA Antiquities Museum affiliated to the Cultural Outreach Sector organizes a lecture entitled “Museums and Sustainable Development” on Tuesday 30 July 2019 at 1:00 PM in the BA Main Building, 3rd Floor Floating Room (F3). The lecture is delivered by Dr. Ossama Abdel-Wareth, General Director of the Children’s Civilization and Creativity Center and Arab Region UNESCO Expert.
The Lecture briefly discusses the concept of national civilization development in an attempt to assert the role of museums and civilization centers in the sustainable development process. The lecture underscores the extent to which national development policies deal with the concept of civilizational development. Moreover, it highlights the role of museums and their association with society in relation to the curious nature of the human mind that encourages endeavors towards information about the development of human civilizations on the Nile banks throughout the past seven thousand years.
On the other hand, there is a change in the social needs that require prior knowledge and expertise about the ancient ages in order to produce new models to eventually reach further social development. The museum’s collection is considered a real proof of the past. Incorporating all such artefacts in one place – the museum – extends great opportunities to fulfil such essential needs, setting community service as the museum’s main purpose.
