The Bibliotheca Alexandrina Antiquities Museum affiliated to the Cultural Outreach Sector organizes a lecture entitled “Arabic Papyrology” on Wednesday, 6 February, 2020 at 12 pm in Khadija Palace, Helwan, Cairo. The lecture is delivered by Prof. Mohamed Ahmed Abd el-Latif Ibrahim, Professor of Islamic and Coptic Archaeology at the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels, Mansura University.
The lecture sheds light on the initial interest in Arabic Papyrology. It tackles its significance to archaeological and cultural studies related to the early Islamic period, when papyrus remained used in Egypt for four centuries after the advancement of Islam, until the 10th Century CE /4th Hijri Century to be replaced after the invention of paper. Therefore, thousands of papyrus originally written in Arabic have reached us.
