The lecture introduces statues in Islamic art through demonstrating the concept of art in general, and Islamic art in particular. The lecturer emphasizes that Islamic art is not necessarily art depicting Islam, but rather which paints an image from an Islamic perspective. Examining human shaped statues in Islamic art, we find that they give a beautiful expression of the universe, life, and the human being through the Islamic perspective. The significance of studying such type of statues lies in their diversity, influence by the cultures that have influenced Islam, as well as the diversity of their material: stone, gypsum, and ceramic. In addition, studying these statues is important because of the appearance of complex configurations for this type of statues, combining human and animal figures in unique artistic figures.
