Launch of International Museum Day, 18 May 2017

The worldwide community of museums will celebrate the International Museum Day, 18 May 2017. It is an occasion to honor museum audiences and to offer a wide range of special activities.

Thus, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Antiquities Museum is eager to celebrate the International Museum Day (IMD) including a workshop to be held on Sunday, 14 May 2017, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm, ages 8–15 years old. During this workshop art activities will be carried out according to the historical periods of Egypt.

The theme of the International Museum Day 2017 is “Museums and contested histories: Saying the unspeakable in museums”. This theme focuses on the role of museums that by working to benefit society, become hubs for promoting peaceful relationships between people. It also highlights how the acceptance of a contested history is the first step in envisioning a shared future under the banner of reconciliation.
