Antiquities Museum Summer Program

20 May 2018 - 20 September 2018

The BA Antiquities Museum is organizing its summer program, for the 17th consecutive year, for 9–16 year old children and young people.
This program encompasses a select collection of artifacts that would attract participants. It includes art education, raises archaeological awareness, and brings a great deal of fun into the learning experience. It also offers opportunities for conducting research and experiments on the selected historical artifacts, and it provides scope for scientific and aesthetic creativity.
The program is set to start on 20 May, and continue until 20 September 2018, under the supervision of Engineer Nermine Nabil, a Museum Education Specialist at the BA. Participants will sit for a test during the first week. The program’s activities will be held every day, except on Fridays, and exceptional schedules on Saturdays will be agreed upon with the participants. The program will include a number of lectures, which will be conducted by the museum’s archaeologists to raise the participants’ archaeological awareness, and it will organize artistic competitions and conduct researches on eminent historical figures.
The program activities are divided into three categories, each of which targets a different age group. Each group will have a fixed schedule that is to be determined later.
Participants will create their different artworks using various methods and materials, such as drawing on canvas, glass, and plexiglass; burning designs on cork and leather; carving gypsum, linoleum, and salt; modelling with clay and oil-based clay; hammering copper and aluminum; and using charcoal and various pastel, acrylic, water, gouache, glass, and ceramic colors. Participants will also be given the opportunity to innovate using other simple and common materials.
The BA Antiquities Museum will conclude its summer program with an exhibition of the participants’ artworks. There will also be a closing ceremony to honor the participants, who will be notified of the ceremony’s date later on.
Registration starts on Sunday, 13 May 2018 from 10:00 am. Places are limited.
