The Bibliotheca Alexandrina Antiquities Museum is hosting an exhibition entitled “Yesterday ‒ Tomorrow: a Work in Aspective Realism”. The exhibition will be on display from 28 May to 10 June 2018, at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Conference Center, West Exhibition Hall. The opening ceremony will take place on 28 May 2018, at 12:00 noon.
This exhibition is executed by an international team of more than 50 specialists, including 13 Egyptologists, from different institutions; such as: Brown University, Harvard University, the Sorbonne, The University of British Columbia, and The American University in Cairo. The team works under the supervision of American-German photography artist Marc Erwin Babej.
Babej revives the complex visual language of ancient Egyptian art and develops it into photorealistic media. In the process, he adapts defining characteristics of Egyptian art; such as aspective representation, which is the simultaneous representation of the human body from multiple perspectives, the canon of proportions, and the integration of images, symbols, and text. The result is a work that is at once timeless and contemporary. The new art style, termed “Aspective Realism” by Babej, is regarded by Egyptologists as the rebirth and evolution of Ancient Egyptian art.
