The Bibliotheca Alexandrina Antiquities Museum affiliated with the Cultural Outreach Sector organizes a lecture entitled “The Egyptian Army in the Tulunids and Ikhshidid Eras” on Monday, 28 October, 2019 at 1:00 pm, in BA Main Building 3rd Floor Floating Room (F3). The Lecture is delivered by Dr. Faten Mohamed Elbendary Elsheikh, Associate Professor at the Tourism Studies Department, the Higher Institute of Tourism and Hotels, Elseiouf, Alexandria.

The lecture pertains to the Egyptian army in the Tulunids and Ikhshidid eras, as the first Egyptian army in the Islamic age. It also highlights the role of Egyptians within the army at that time, which has peaked during these two eras, especially in protecting not only Egypt, the Levant, and the frontiers, but also the Abbasid Caliphate in Baghdad and the Abbasid Caliph himself. Such a role has not been new to Egypt, which has rather played it since the dawn of history.

The lecture also highlights the human structure of the army at that time, drafting, martial arts, battles, types of weapons, assigning the leadership of the land and naval forces mostly to Tulunids, and one particular leader in the Egyptian army at the time.
