The Bibliotheca Alexandria Antiquities Museum affiliated to the Cultural Outreach Sector organizes a lecture entitled “The Main Tomb at the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa: A New Reading” on Tuesday, 11 February 2020 at 1:00 pm at the BACC Meeting Room (C). Dr. Abdel-Hamid Masoud, Associate Professor of Greco-Roman Archaeology, the Department of Archaeology, Faculty of Arts, Ain Shams University deliver the lecture.

The lecture pertains to the catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa in Alexandria in general and the main tomb and burial chamber in particular. This tomb has captured the attention of classic archaeologists and those interested in Alexandrian studies for its unique architectural and artistic style as vivid in its architectural design with its unique architectural elements. In addition, the diversity of civilizations in the funerary concept of this tomb gives way to new doctrinal and funerary indications and concepts that have never appeared in any other tomb at that time, some of which have never been studied and others pose a controversy among archaeologists.
